Here we are again. Halloween is just around the corner. This is the time of year we horror writers look forward to. I mean, this is THE holiday. And it’s on a Saturday this year. We’ve been waiting for that to happen for, well, years and years. By the time it happens again, I’ll be roughly 773 377 219 183 years old (this is my best estimate; my math is nothing if not shaky), so I plan on enjoying this one. But I digress.
We here at Slammed & Damned have an event planned! Don’t get too excited. Our vision is modest at best (we might need corrective lenses). Next week is ‘50s Parody Week. Each day will feature a review of a film that spoofs sci-fi/monster flicks from the 1950s. These films have rather quietly turned into their own subgenre (“quietly” because they are not commercially viable or popular even). For the most part, they only appeal to horror geeks. And that’s why we’re so excited here at the site. For us, this really is an event! (Sad but true.)
Then, the following week, leading up to Halloween, finds us back to the usual. But on Friday (All Hallows Eve eve), I’ll post a piece discussing 10 of my favorite horror flicks…well, nine of them anyway. Fave film number 10—which I consider to be this year’s best horror film—will get a full review on Halloween! (Note the exclamation point. Again, corrective lenses?)
So, whoa, right? Big doings here at Slammed & Damned. This is our first Halloween, so we are determined to make it memorable (your mileage may vary). In the meantime, I’ve spent some time goofing off doing research on the scariest, most disturbing pics the internet has to offer. (See how much I love you, Gentle Reader?) So, courtesy of Google images, I present to you the fruits of my labor…umm, that sounds kinda wrong. I mean, here are some pics that I hoped would be scarier than they are. (I mean, come on! These are what Google thinks are the scariest, weirdest, grossest, spookiest and strangest Halloween pics the internet has to offer? And yes, those were my search keywords.) Admittedly, there are a couple of good ones here, but once again the internet has disappointed. I ask you, how are computers ever going to rise up and conquer us if this is the best they can do? (Ooooh! Now we know! If I ever do find some awesome, messed-up Halloween pics, the end is nigh. Whew! I’m glad that’s handled. Early warning is the best defense.) But I digress.
